No We Can't!
64The New Obama Mantra
American Spirit
This past Thursday (July 1, 2010) the President of the United States gave his first real immigration speech at American University. It was basically the same talking points he has made on all issues. He seeks bipartisanship while blasting away at the Republicans in the very same speech. He offered no new specifics to the illegal immigration issue...blah, blah, blah. One thing he said caught my attention. President Obama stated, "...(borders) just too vast to secure." He went on to say they "can't be secured by fences and more patrols ". My immediate question to that was, "Can we at least make the attempt? " Can we at least send 6,000 troops that George W. Bush sent (unarmed) to our southern border? Those that remember, just the threat of U.S. troops on the border stopped the invasion. Never mind they had nothing with which to defend themselves (thanks W). The thing, again, that got me during his speech was conceding defeat that the border is "just too vast" to secure. Luckily for us, Presidents Roosevelt and Truman didn't think the Nazis were "just too vast " to defeat in WWII. I just don't understand the President of the United States admitting defeat on a security issue. Think maybe some people that hate us in the Middle East were taking notes? I'm willing to wager a freshly minted U.S. dollar they were. Are we suppose to just hope Al Qaeda will forget about exploding a dirty bomb here? Are we suppose to just erase our southern border and forget the USA is a sovereign nation?
What happened to that quaint little motto of President Obama during the 2008 campaign? You remember, don't you? The YES WE CAN spirit that infiltrated his zombie-like followers into repeating this over and over again...what happened to that unflappable will? It is now "NO WE CAN'T"? Just recently, VP Joe "Gaffe" Biden made the remark that "eight million jobs are lost now and they are not coming back. ?" Says who, Joe? You and the Democrats and your Pro(re)gressive pals? The economists? They have been right on the mark for you, haven't they Joe? The American people aren't buying that BS line. We are now in the gloom and doom of the Jimmy Carter years. The yes we can BS is quickly being replaced with no we can't . We can't secure the borders because it's just too vast . Total and complete hogwash!
As I have stated before, just 6000 unarmed U.S. troops on the border in 2006-2007 stopped illegal immigration to a trickle. Send at least that many, fully armed this time, and any illegal getting across the border would make headlines across the nation. Send in the drones! Yes, the same drones that are destroying Taliban and Al-Qaeda leadership by the truckload. No, I'm not saying attack illegals with stinger missiles. But, this is a recon tool that would greatly aid border security. Of course, some illegals will get through. But, I think a conservative estimate would be 90-95% would be caught. The threat of U.S. troops and advanced technology would sap the will of not only illegals, but human and drug traffickers as well.
President Obama's remark was just another indication he has no intention of securing the border. It is incumbent upon him and Congress to defend this nation from harm. He masks his true intentions with the "comprehensive immigration reform " mantra with what is his real objective; mass amnesty. His reason here is purely political. He wants to get at many "new Democrats " as he can before November. He knows the Democrats are facing quite possibly unprecedented losses in both Houses of Congress this year. That was the first thing I thought about when he made the remark of the border being "just too vast to secure completely ." President Obama wants illegals to continue to come across that border. With Independence Day tomorrow, I am thinking whatever happened to that "can do " American spirit? What happened to that American spirit that sent men to the moon with basically just slide rulers as engineering tools? The spirit that engineered advances in medicine that conquered Polio? Or the American spirit that enabled a guy named "Jobs" to invent a computer in his garage? It's now being replaced with "no we can't " secure the border or anything else that runs counter to our agenda.
The President of the United States knows full well we can secure that border. He knows it is also his responsibility to secure that border. It is far from secure despite what "Big Sis " of Homeland Security tells us. Just three months ago, a rancher in Arizona walking across his own property was shot and killed by what many think was an illegal immigrant. I think that is possible. But, most likely, it was a drug runner. Obama knows that Republicans and the American people want the border secured. Forget for the moment the threat an unrelenting wave of illegals and drugs moving across that border present to national security. Consider what is coming across the border (not just the southern border) which can cause massive damage...and deaths of American citizens. Al-Qaeda will not relent, Mr. President. It is not only your responsibility to secure the "just too vast" border. It is also your duty as President of the United States. No you can't, Mr. President? Yes you can , Mr. President. For the sake of the citizens of this nation, you had better find a way.
Obama: Republicans At Fault on Immigration
- Obama tries to put Republicans on immigration hot seat - Washington Times
Seeking to inject urgency into the push for an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, President Obama on Thursday called on Republicans to join the effort, telling them he can't pass a bill without them.

Yes you did! If we cannot secure our borders, then why are we still in Korea, Germany, Japan, etc., etc. Now let's talk about Iraq and Afgan....might as well disband the armed services and save the money!
Terrific hub. I agree with every single word. Why should Obama secure the borders when he views them as doorways for future democratic votes. Perhaps he is planning on being President indefinitely ala Chavez!
Well done, sir.
My proposal: Put all 50 national guard units on 2 month rotations along the border with Mexico. Issue 'shoot to kill' orders on ANYONE crossing at ANY illegal point. Each state will get one rotation every 9-10 years, and the illegal immigration will stop pretty @#$% quick!
Additionally: If the president will not defend America from enemies, 'both foreign and domestic', IMPEACH HIS SORRY @$$! Then, pass a law retroactive for about 4 decades (declaring babies of illegals to also be illegal) and deport any illegals with their anchor babies.
What!? Mexico might get annoyed or upset about it! What the heck do we care what they think. If they wanna start something, we can bomb them back to the stone age in about a week and a half.
Again, Well done!
David I think amnesty is supposed to equal votes. That is the strategy of the non action on our border. I would like to see the powers that be and BP plug the hole out in the gulf first. And then concentrate on securing the border. But we know that won't happen. Your title had me sold on this hub !
A friend of mine said to em the other day we are Americans not American'ts - how appropriate.
It's far more than amnesty he wants - it's open borders. That's what we have now and it'll stay that way until a real effort is made to secure them. Certainly there are many more illegals entering our southern border, but the government's refusal to enforce the law allows everyone to remain here, no matter how they entered.
Obama has become "no we can't" agenda instead of "yes we can." I have learned to believe just the opposite of what this clown says.
Keep on hubbing!
The comments on bipartisanship while slamming Republicans reminds me of the saying "The beatings will continue until morale improves."
Remember in November.
By the way, I'm not sure the President has the power or the authority to grant amnesty. The power he has is for reprieve or pardon. I'm no expert, but I think that means he can't exercise his power until after folks have been arrested, convicted, and assigned punishement.
Lest we forget, the President is not all powerful just because he's President. The presidency is a job (a really powerful job), with roles, responsibilities, and authorities as defined in the U.S. Constitution, which the president has sworn to uphold.
I just found out that children from across the border in Palomas, Mexico have been bused over the border for free education for the past 40 years.

Mexico damn well enforces its borders and deports foreigners.
Great hub!! I thought exactly what you did!!! What happened to "Yes, we can?" Honestly, it has turned into "Yes, you BETTER!!" with the government stripping away more and more freedoms and rights. You did some good work here.

Whew, I started reading your profile and saw you were an ex-government man and all the bad things I been saying flashed through my mind..but I see now...it's OK, lol. You don't like em either! I have to say in all honesty though I think Jimmy Carter was the most moral president we have ever known and though my husband won't defend him either he wasn't the blame equipment didn't work. I guess some men were just not meant to be Presidents, actually I would say many, lets just pray Obama will see how many people are turning against him, even ones who put him there. Good hub, I think more people should write hubs against what is going on, maybe then he will take notice. He is a liar and the whole world knows he is and I don't see how he could shame his own family besides selling out his own country, and leaving us open to attack! I am starting to think he should be impeached! It doesn't hurt to start throwing the idea around, might help. Polly
