75Racism: Does Color Really Matter?
Racism Raises It's Ugly Head
You would think with Barack Obama as the first black U.S. President, the NAACP would know better or do better. But, no, the NAACP leadership had to do something stupid to keep from sliding into irreverence. Unfortunately, that "something" was labeling the Tea Party as having "racist elements " within it's party structure. The NAACP did not bring forth any examples. But, labeling people racist seems to be their only function these days. It was disheartening to see a once proud organization, that stood for racial equality, degenerate into nothing more than another political activist organization. This racist label for the Tea Party was particularly troubling in light of the racist comments from the "New Black Panther Party."
King Samir Shabazz, of the NBPP, stated "You want freedom? Kill some crackers. You're gonna have to kill some of their babies! " Now, I'm sitting here typing this hub at 3:30PM CDT on July 20, 2010. As of this moment, I have yet to hear or read any condemnation from the NAACP on this blatantly racist rant from Shabazz. It's bad enough he espouses killing anyone. But, killing babies? The most innocent on earth? Who is the racist, Mr. Ben Jealous of the NAACP? Where is your outrage about this? In fact, where is the outrage from the first African-American president about this? I'm curious if Obama thinks NBPP leader Shabazz "acted stupidly" with these racist comments? Where is the moral indignation from the MSM? Maybe if Shabazz kills a few "crackers " then the NAACP and MSM will speak up. I promise not to hold my breath on that. I won't even go into the Department of Justice giving the NBPP a pass on voter intimidation. No, that too is not worthy of condemnation from the NAACP and the MSM. But, imagine, just for a moment, if that had been the KKK standing at that polling place with billy clubs and knives. What would have been the reaction? I think we all know all too well. The reaction would have been one of demanding their arrest and incarceration. Justifiably so, I might add. But, I would like to see that outrage applied to the NBPP for voter intimidation also.
Now, we also have a video of Shirley Sherrod, USDA Rural Development Georgia State Director, giving a speech at the NAACP's 20th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet. She talked about how she did not do all she was capable of doing to help a white farmer who was facing foreclosure. Sherrod further stated she would do just enough for him to say she had "tried " to help him. So, she sends him to a white lawyer, his "own kind." Faced with video evidence of NAACP member nodding their heads in agreement, the NAACP had no choice but to condemn the actions of Sherrod. The NAACP really needs to look at this video very carefully. Then they need to go to the mirror and look at themselves.
Racism of any stripe is an abomination. That goes for what I perceive as reverse racism as well. There are black racists just as there are white racists, just as there are brown racists. They should all be condemned outright. But, by saying nothing about the outrageous racist comments by the NBPP, the NAACP and the MSM gives tacit approval of reverse racism. This cannot stand . It must be repudiated and condemned vociferously! I await Barack Obama to condemn Shabazz and Sherrod as quickly as he did the Cambridge Police Department. At the very least, he could say both of those people "acted stupidly ."

btw...I'm most envious of the discussion threads you manage to get on your hubs. Very impressive! You definitely get the thinking wheels turning on all sides and foster talk which is great. A total thumbs up on this piece.
She said she was in an odd position to offer help to a white farmer when so many black farmers had lost their farms. She sent this guy to a white lawyer who didn't want to help him because he was poor. That was her light bulb moment that it was more about being poor than being black and she helped the white guy not lose his farm. We're not talking about Trent Lott - we're talking about a woman who was treated unfairly and lost her job because people (Obama's crew and the NAACP in this case) didn't check out the facts. So what if she said the "white farmer had a superior attitude" - that WAS the main part of the story. This guy needed her help yet thought he was better than her because he was white and she was black. Any human being wouldn't be wanting to help such an individual who looked down on them. Yet she did. That act should be applauded not condemned. If you want to talk about Lott and not use him as a diversion on this topic - write a new hub! Seems like you have a series here. Just try to keep it real, eh?
I think you miss the point on the Sherrod story... she turned around her racism 24 years ago. That was the point of her telling the story at that dinner that FOX presented out of context and everyone including the liberals jumped on without actually checking the facts. The video was taken out of context - this is obvious now. Her firing was done as a political over-reaction. If people aren't allowed to change... how do people ever change?
I think Sherrod should have been thrown under the bus. At first I didn't, but when you watch the whole of the tape, She is part of the laughing crowd, she gives them a smile, she doesn't step in with a stern face and say NO, don't applaud, don't laugh, that thinking of yours is Wrong -- that would have made it a teachable moment.
Thank you David very informative hub and it is appropriate to get exposure that there is racism all over and all should receive equal punishment or reprimand because wrong is wrong no matter the color of your skin or ethnic descent.
Seems evidence is coming out that libs intentionaly put out that the tea party was racist to avoid being seen for what they themselves are! "Daily Caller,
Great write! voted up!
Racism is racism in my view. As for Sherrod, she may get a pass because apparently her remarks were misrepresented. She spoke about an incident that occurred many, many years ago. What was not shown on the tape was the fact that she learned from it and regrets her original feelings.
Great article David. I agree with RB above, racism is racism it matters not from which side it originates. Maybe as more and more of this is exposed, some will FINALLY realize that blacks can be racists just like ANY OTHER group or individual. I do agree that the silence from BO is very bothersome, as he was oh so quick to condemn the white cops in Cambridge last year!
Very enlightnening hub. Rated up and useful. Thx for always having the courage to write hubs that are controversial. Keep up the great work!
Provocative article, but I don't think there is any such thing as reverse racism. It is all racism no matter who is doing it. Seems like the liberals, progressives or whatever brand they are using today have trained caucasians to believe they are the only racists on the planet. News Alert, racist come in all colors and no matter what color they come in they are still just plain old ugly racists.
This is starting to get crazy. I think Obama and crew are hearing about this, but right now I think they are hoping it will continue to blow over, but I am not too sure about it.
Keep on hubbing!

Writer David. I'll agree with "Right Black" on this one. No such thing as reverse racism - racism is racism - hating another group because one believes their group is superior. Recently, I wrote some Hubs on the subject. You might want to read my Hub entitled "The Current State of Black America," which lists several kinds of discrimination, racism, and my own personal experiences with racism.
Your Hub was well-written. Kudos! Voted up. I'm now a fan :-)
